W. Putin has appointed that this will be the “greenest” OG ever. Sochi is situated in Caucausus Region of Russia. This wild beauty region is protected by Sochi National Park and the and the bordering buffer zone of the Western Caucasus reserve with status of a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s hard to believe that without international control principles of sustainable development will be preserved. This concern is confirmed by the report of a UNESCO monitoring team which visited Sochi in April 2008. It asserts that facilities are too close to the buffer zones and other boundaries of the reserves. We support NGOs in they endeavour to protect one of the last wild alpine areas at the eastern edge of Europe, with many unique plant and animal species, from irreversible devastation.
Read letters to UNESCO and articles below to find out about the threats to the nature reserves and how Russian government influences NGOs (f.e. WWF-Russia) to pay off their pressure.

The construction of the railway section across the territory,
where red-book plants are growing, in Sochi, will resume after reception
of results of an additional examination of the territory.
Thus, the Customer's Service for building railway objects has reacted
to the actions of environmentalists, who had blocked for three days the
territory, where Pitsunda pine trees and Montpellier spuria brooms are
growing.
